CHILDREN                                                                    Because children’s ability to articulate their thoughts and feelings and engage in abstract reasoning is developing, play is their means of self-expression.  In working with children, I use play to bridge this gap between concrete experience and abstract thought.  Through symbolic play, children feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring possibilities, which leads to optimal development and growth.

ADOLESCENTS                                                             Adolescence is a time of questioning and self-discovery.  In today’s rapidly changing society, inundated by technology and social media, adolescents are dealing with many new issues as they become young adults.  I strive to provide an open, supportive environment with adolescents.  This allows them to work through the difficulties they are experiencing, discover who they are, and determine how they want to “fit in,” so that they feel confident as they move into adulthood.

ADULTS                                                                         Life, inevitably, brings challenges.  In counseling, I acknowledge and appreciate diversity and the unique experiences of each of my clients, tailoring my approach accordingly.  I collaborate with adult clients to facilitate increased understanding of life’s difficulties and their causes, so that change is possible.  The purpose of counseling is not to “cure,” but rather to bring greater awareness so that individuals can realize their capabilities, examine alternative possibilities, cope effectively with life and, ultimately, achieve their goals.

                     Meet Jessica!

I believe people have both the freedom and the responsibility to develop self-awareness and find meaning in life.  And by doing so, they are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to face life’s challenges.   With this self-determination, people are able to act in accordance with their values, meaning, and purpose.

The relationship between client and counselor is foundational to achieving counseling goals.  I will support you as we work together to identify and develop your strengths and use these insights to direct the counseling process.  I orient my approach based on what will be most effective in meeting your unique needs.

Jessica Nolen, MS, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas (TX #82975).  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the University of Texas at Arlington, her Teacher Certification at the University of Texas at Austin, and her Master of Science degree in Counseling from Texas Woman’s University.  She is currently working on her Registered Play Therapist certification.  Jessica is a member of the Texas Counseling Association and the Association for Play Therapy.

I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families who are dealing with issues related to change/transition, stress, anxiety, social skills, communication, relationships, self-regulation, depression, identity, and sense of self.   With compassion and respect for my clients, I provide a safe and supportive space for them to examine their lives and determine how to effectively deal with its challenges.
